The Palestinian Land Day – March 3rd – shall concentrate mobilizations around the world to defend the inalienable right to self-determination of this people who have been living for more than 60 years under occupation. The date was approved at the Palestinian Assembly held on January 31st during the World Social Forum. It will be part of the agenda of the Global Action Week from March 28th to April 4th, also defined by social movements at the WSF and that will include claims and protests against the world capitalist system and imperialism.
On March 30th, the campaign for BDS (boycott, disinvestment and sanctions) to Israel will be emphasized. In Brazil, there will be a campaign against the Congress ratification of the Free Trade Agreement between the Zionist State and the Mercosul (Common Market of the South). This agreement has already been signed by the countries of the block and was sent to the Brazilian Parliament last October 24th. The struggle now is to avoid its approval, which would legitimate an occupation recognized by the UNO (United Nations Organization) as illegal. Also because the FTA includes products from settlements irregularly established at Palestinian territories. The activists also point out that a treat with a State that disrespects human rights and all international conventions and laws, like Israel, shouldn’t be signed.
The call for BDS was made by the Palestinian civil society and led to the creation of a national committee named BNC (Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee). It gathers all movements and political forces present at Palestine, so it’s a diverse and representative group in the occupied territory of Cisjordan. It reflects an important unity on behalf of the Palestinian cause. This way, it has become a reference to social movement struggles all over the world. The campaign was initiated by the Palestinian society and involves boycott to American and Israeli products; the disinvestment made by governments and institutions, breaking contracts and agreement with companies and universities that support the Zionism; and sanctions to crimes against humanity committed by the Zionist occupation, like the recent massacres in Gaza.
The Palestinian Land Day
The date celebrates the resistance of the Palestinians who were protesting against the occupation of their land by Israel in the Galilee, on March 30th, 1976. The Israeli army violently repressed the demonstration, indiscriminately hitting men, women and children. As a result, six Palestinians were murdered and hundreds of them were wounded or arrested.
The Land Day is represented by the olive tree, typical tree from the Mediterranean cost, where the occupied territory is located at. This year, on this day activists from all over the world will reverberate the Palestinian voices claiming for justice.

O Dia da Terra palestino – 30 de março – deverá concentrar as mobilizações ao redor do mundo em defesa do direito inalienável à autodeterminação do povo que vive há mais de 60 anos sob ocupação. A data foi aprovada na Assembléia Palestina, realizada em 31 de janeiro, durante o Fórum Social Mundial. Acompanha agenda da Semana de Ação Global – de 28 de março a 4 de abril – definida pelos movimentos sociais também no FSM, em plenária, a qual englobará as diversas reivindicações e protestos contra o sistema capitalista mundial e o imperialismo.
No dia 30 de março, será dada ênfase à campanha por BDS (boicotes, desinvestimento e sanções) a Israel e, no caso brasileiro, contra a ratificação pelo Congresso Nacional do TLC (Tratado de Livre Comércio) entre o Estado sionista e o Mercosul (Mercado Comum do Sul). O acordo em questão já foi assinado pelos países integrantes desse bloco e chegou ao Parlamento brasileiro em 24 de outubro último. A luta agora é para barrar sua aprovação nesse espaço. Tal aval legitimaria uma ocupação ilegal, conforme reconhece a ONU (Organização das Nações Unidas). Inclusive porque o TLC abrange produtos de assentamentos irregularmente instalados em territórios palestinos. Também não se pode admitir tratado com um estado que desrespeita os direitos humanos e todas as convenções e leis internacionais, como é o caso de Israel, destacam ativistas.
O apelo por BDS foi feito pela sociedade civil palestina e culminou com a formação de um comitê nacional, intitulado BNC (Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee). Esse inclui todos os movimentos e forças políticas que atuam na Palestina, portanto, constitui-se em espaço amplo e representativo no território ocupado da Cisjordânia. E reflete importante unidade em defesa da causa palestina. Assim, tem se tornado referência às lutas dos movimentos sociais ao redor do mundo. A campanha iniciada a partir de chamado da sociedade palestina inclui o boicote a produtos estadunidenses e israelenses; o desinvestimento por parte de governos e instituições diversas, com o rompimento de contratos e acordos com empresas e mesmo universidades que apoiem a investida sionista; e sanções aos crimes contra a humanidade cometidos pela ocupação sionista, a exemplo dos massacres ocorridos recentemente em Gaza.
O Dia da Terra palestino
A data marca homenagem à resistência de palestinos que protestavam contra a ocupação de suas terras por Israel na Galiléia, no dia 30 de março de 1976. O exército israelense reprimiu violentamente a manifestação, atingindo de forma indiscriminada homens, mulheres e crianças. Como resultado, seis palestinos foram assassinados e centenas deles ficaram feridos ou foram presos.
O Dia da Terra é simbolizado pela oliveira, árvore típica da costa mediterrânea, onde se situa o território ocupado. Por ocasião da sua passagem, neste ano, ativistas de todo o mundo ecoarão as vozes dos palestinos, por justiça.
