Just two weeks away, our 2nd US Social Forum starts and if you haven’t made arrangements…Now is the time to plan on joining 20,000 activists in Detroit, June 22nd – 26th.
What is happening in Detroit and in Michigan is happening all across the United States. Detroit is a harbinger for what we must do in our communities! As grassroots activists and organizers, we work to address the indignities against working families and low-income people, and protect our human right to the basic necessities of life and against war. In Detroit, we can make change happen!
Caravans of buses and cars are coming from across the country. Marches are coming from 24 cities in the South and Midwest. People are coming by planes, trains, buses and cars. It will be fun to organize a car pool and road trip to the Motor City. However you get there, don’t miss this important gathering.
The schedule begins with Tues.’s 5 pm Opening March and Welcome; Wed.-Fri.’s more than a thousand Workshops, over forty Peoples’ Movement Assemblies and three Plenaries (Thur. includes War & Militarism); through Sat.’s All Forum People’s Movement Assembly and Closing Ceremony; and with Cultural Events, Parties and self-organized meetings every evening and through-out the days. What a USSF!
Join us for UFPJ’s Peace March at 12 noon, on Wed.-Fri, on the riverside of Cobo Hall (bring your banners and signs), informal UFPJ Meet-Ups at 5:30 pm on the riverside of Hart Plaza and at our UFPJ tent in the USSF Village. You may send your organization’s tabling literature if you won’t be at the forum. For further UFPJ/USSF contact George Martin at niadjetey@gmail.com or 414-745-5740 at USSF.

There are literally dozens (too many to list here) of UFPJ Member Group Workshops that will be listed on our USSF/UFPJ Flyer at the forum. This info is also be available on our UFPJ website.
Go to www.ussf2010.org for registration, scheduling, other logistical info, the Children’s Social Forum, Youth Camp and hotels and housing.
The Allied Media Conference is in Detroit four days before the USSF and has built a message board system where people who have housing to offer and people who need housing can find each other:
We don’t expect the changes we need to come from Washington or Wall Street, so we are building a mass movement to fight for the healthcare, housing, jobs and peace that we need.
The purpose of the USSF is to effectively and affirmatively articulate the values and strategies of a growing and vibrant movement for peace and justice in the United States. Join us in Detroit. Get there if you can!
