We count ten years of Shared Communication at the WSF, which realized its
first edition in January 2001, together with the World Social Forum, which
began that year in Porto Alegre.
At the time, journalists and alternative media at the WSF made a
collaborative agreement to cover the event without following the agenda of
the mainstream press. And over the years this effort was repeated with
different media and new participation, mixing the initiative to cover the
WSF with spaces for dialogue about the right to and democratization of
communication.
How to evaluate a concept which, in the beginning, counted more on will
than on tools, and which today has been lost from sight amid the profusion
of collaborative possibilities opened up by technology? In which this
initiative is associated with the movement for a new communication?
In ten years shared communication has become synonymous with collectively
decided media action, with an agreed common objective – another world is
possible – and alternative forms of organisation that encourage each
participant to add to the collaborative effort in their own particular
manner.
The exercise, which made the WSF its laboratory of coexistence, expansion
of ties and bases for collaboration, an which in the end resulted in a
commitment to the construction of a politics of communication for the
World Social Forum, requires evaluation.
Are we making progress? Have we contributed in these ten years to the WSF
process? Has the WSDF contributed to a new awareness about the right to
communication? What is the role of shared communication in forging this
debate? What will we do this year, when a series of Forums around the
world brings the process again to to Africa, with the 2011 WSF in Dakar,
Senegal?
These questions are opened up for discussion at our roundtable
conversations about 10 Years of Shared Communication.
Our first encounter will be on the 24th of January, at Usina do Gasômetro.
In the morning connections about communication will be made with
participants in other places, as part of the proposal for an Expanded WSF.
In the afternoon, conversations are scheduled about the current balance
and perspectives emerging from projects like Ciranda, the Forum of
Community Radios and Forum of TVs, and from new shared communication
collectives. A connection with Palestine about the walls that impede
communication between peoples will be included.
From the 26th, activites will include representatives of shared media in
other countries, like Nairobi and Honduras. In addition to activities in
the cities of Canoas and Nova Hamburgo, with meetings of Radios – together
with the Interplanetary Dialogue of Free Culture, and projection of the
films of Felco, at the Intercontinental Youth Camp.
The shared communication encounters will include organisational activities
and coverage, for example the Radio Forum, which will be held at the
Legislative Assembly, bringing together Rede Abraco, Agencia Pulsar-Amarc,
and another edition of Ciranda.
Our collective agenda in Porto Alegre will be divulged daily via

Começa a contagem dos 10 Anos de Comunicação Compartilhada no FSM, que concretizou sua primeira edição em janeiro de 2001 junto com o Fórum Social Mundial, nascido aquele ano em Porto Alegre.
Na época, jornalistas e mídias alternativas no FSM fizeram um acordo colaborativo para cobrir o evento sem se pautar pela grande imprensa. E ao longo dos anos o esforço se repetiu com diferentes meios e novas participações, mesclando a iniciativa de cobertura do FSM, espaços de diálogo pelo direito e a democratização da comunicação.
Como avaliar um conceito que, no início, contava mais com vontades do que ferramentas e hoje se perde de vista em meio a profusão de possibilidades colaborativas abertas pela tecnologia? Em que essa iniciativa se associa ao movimento em defesa de uma nova comunicação?
Em dez anos a comunicação compartilhada reside no mesmo recorte da ação midiática coletivamente deliberada, com um objetivo comum pactuado – outro mundo é possível – e alternativas de gestão que movem cada participante a agregar ao esforço colaborativo o seu modo próprio de participar.
Esse exercício, que fez do FSM seu laboratório de convivência, ampliação de vínculos e bases colaborativas, e afinal resultou em compromisso com a construção da própria política de comunicação do Fórum Social Mundial, requer avaliação.
Avançamos? Contribuimos nestes 10 anos para o processo FSM? O FSM contribui para uma nova consciência sobre o direito à comunicação? Qual é o papel da comunicação compartilhada em forjar este debate? O que faremos neste ano em que um roteiro de Fóruns pelo mundo, começando em Porto Alegre e Salvador conduzem o processo novamente à Africa, com o FSM 2011, em Dacar, no Senegal?
Estas questões estão abertas para nossa Roda de Conversa sobre 10 Anos de Comunicação Compartilhada.
Nosso primeiro encontro será dia 24 de Janeiro, na Usina do Gasômetro. Na parte da manhã serão feitas conexões sobre comunicação com participantes de outros lugares, dentro da proposta FSM Expandido. À tarde, estão programadas conversas sobre o saldo e perspectivas a partir de experiências como Ciranda, Fórum de Radios Comunitárias e TVs e de novos coletivos de comunicação compartilhada. Incluirá conexão com a Palestina, sobre os muros que impedem a comunicação entre os povos.
A partir de 26, as atividades incluirão representantes da comunicação compartilhada de outros paises, como Nairóbi e Honduras. Além de atividades nas cidades de Canoas e Nova Hamburgo, com encontros de Radio – junto com o Diálogo Interplanetário de Cultura Livre, e projeção de filmes do Felco, no Acampamento Intercontinental da Juventude
Os encontros de comunicação compartilhada terão atividades organizativas e de cobertura, a exemplo do Fórum de Radios, que será feito na Assembléia Legislativa, reunindo Rede Abraço, Agencia Pulsar-Amarc e mais uma edição da Ciranda.
