From 10th-12th June, women from various countries from Asia and Pacific gathered in Quezon City, Philipines, for the WMW regional meeting. On the 11th June, a demonstration denounced US imperialism at the region and the military violence against women.
Enough of military violence against women! Enough of US wars and militarism! Stop US support to Israeli Terrorism! These were some slogans that express the struggle of women from Asia and Oceania against free trade, military bases, and trafficking of women.
The demonstration was carried out on the morning of 11th June, recording that the day following, 12 June, is Philippine Independence Day but only from Spain, not from US intervention, control and military presence. “The US has its special forces, its CIA, its militarized USAID and USIP in the Philippines especially in Mindanao to secure US’ vital economic interests including mine deposits, sources of energy and important sea lanes. US forces are into an unconventional warfare against any group that it perceives to be its enemy”, states the call to action. “And the US machinery for war is—in Okinawa and Japan, Korea, Guam, Afghanistan—everywhere in the world enlivening prostitution and trafficking and making women more prone to military sexual violence. The US is also giving approximately 3 Billion dollars a year to Israel, which most recently attacked humanitarian aid ships to Gaza”.
A full report on the regional meeting in Asia is being prepared and soon will be available in the WMW website.
